Supplies Needed:
Aleene’s DIY Craft Heavy-Duty Adhesive
Tire
Jute rope
Large wood round
Scissors
Measuring tape
Pencil
Jumbo push pins (optional)
Drill and screws (optional)
Step 1: Clean tire and mark the center of the wood round
Before you get started on your DIY ottoman, clean your recycled tire to ensure it’s free of large pieces of debris and dirt. Select a wood round that’s larger than the inner hole of the tire, then measure and mark the center with a pencil.
Step 2: Apply Heavy-Duty Adhesive to wood round
Use scissors to cut the applicator tip of your adhesive. Apply a thick layer of Aleene’s DIY Craft Heavy-Duty Adhesive to the edge of your wood round. Place the wood round atop the tire, glue side down, and press firmly to adhere. This will serve as the top surface of your DIY ottoman.
Step 3: (Optional) Insert screws as an anchor point
If desired, you can insert two screws to serve as an anchor point to wrap the jute rope. Use a drill to insert the first screw and the end of the jute rope into the marked center. Insert the second screw approximately a half inch from the first, ensuring the jute rope fits between the two screws when wrapped.
Step 4: Glue and wrap jute rope on the wood
Apply a generous amount of Heavy-Duty Adhesive to the surface of the wood round as you wrap your jute rope in a tight spiral. Press firmly to adhere the jute rope to the wood.
Step 5: Glue and wrap jute rope around the tire
Continue applying glue and wrapping the tire with jute rope. If needed, use push pins to hold the rope in place. Flip the tire over to wrap the bottom half.
Step 6: Let dry, remove pins and screws, and enjoy!
Once the glue has set, remove any pins and screws from your jute rope ottoman. Allow the adhesive to cure for 24 hours, then your DIY ottoman is ready to enjoy! This rustic jute rope ottoman is the perfect accent for outdoor furniture.
