Step 1: Gather materials

Gather materials for DIY photo magnets

Gather the materials needed for your photo magnets. Print your selected photos to scale so that the subject will fit onto a small decorative plate. Select smooth plates without ridges for best results.

We’re using Aleene’s Instant Tacky Reusable Craft Putty to adhere the heavy-duty magnets, but you can also use Aleene’s Tacky Magnetic Adhesive Dots for this project— skip the craft putty and just peel and stick the magnets into place instead!

Step 2: Trim photos

Use scissors to trim the photos

Use scissors to trim the subject of your photos to fit onto the plates. This photo magnet craft is a great way to display pictures of loved ones, special events, and more!

Step 3: Apply glue

Apply Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue onto photos

Apply Tacky Glue to the back of each photo cut out, using the tip to spread the glue. Place the glued photo onto the center of a small decorative plate and press firmly to adhere. For an extra layer of protection, seal your photo magnet project by brushing the entire front side with Tacky Glue.

Step 4: Prepare craft putty

Prepare Instant Tacky Reusable Craft Putty

Ensure the back of the plate is clean, dry, and free of grease or debris. Take a piece of Instant Tacky Reusable Craft Putty from the package, then stretch and knead until it is soft. Roll the craft putty into a ball, then press it onto the center of the back of the plate.

Step 5: Place craft magnets

Place magnet onto craft putty to secure into place

Place the heavy-duty magnet on top of the ball of craft putty and press firmly to secure it into place.

Step 6: Display!
