No-Sew Denim Patchwork Blanket with Fusible Net
Upcycling is easy with Aleene’s! Learn how to turn old jeans into a denim patchwork blanket with Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Fusible Net. This project is the perfect way to upcycle denim that no longer fits or just isn’t your style anymore (goodbye skinny jeans, hello bootcut!). With Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Fusible Net, there’s no sewing needed— just iron to create a heavy-duty hold that’s permanent, flexible, and machine washable!
Supplies Needed:

Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Fusible Net
Recycled denim
Fabric scissors
Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
Sewing ruler
Iron + ironing board or mat
Step 1: Cut denim into large, flat pieces
Before you get started on this upcycled denim project, prewash and dry your denim without fabric softener. For a totally unique patchwork blanket, try using a variety of denim washes and shades! Use fabric scissors to cut your denim into large, flat pieces with no seams, rivets, hems, or pockets.
Step 2: Trim denim into evenly sized rectangles
Place the denim onto your cutting mat, then use a rotary cutter and sewing ruler to trim the denim into equally sized rectangles. Repeat this process until you have enough denim rectangles to make a patchwork blanket of your desired size.
Step 3: Attach fusible net to denim
Preheat your iron to high, no steam. Place a denim rectangle facing upward onto your ironing mat, then measure and cut a strip of Fusible Net to fit the long side. Place the Fusible Net on the edge of the denim and iron for 2 seconds to attach to fabric. Allow to cool, then peel off the backing.
Step 4: Fuse to create rows of patchwork denim
Place the next piece of denim over the Fusible Net, then iron with firm pressure for at least 15 seconds to bond. Flip and iron the back side of the fused area for an additional 15 seconds. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to complete the first row of your denim patchwork blanket, then continue this process to create additional rows of denim patchwork as desired.
Step 5: Attach patchwork denim rows together
Measure and cut a strip of Fusible Net to fit the entire length of your denim patchwork row. Place the net along the edge of the row, iron to attach, let cool, and peel off the backing. Place the next row of denim patchwork over the net, iron for 15 seconds, flip, and iron the back side of the fused area for an additional 15 seconds. Repeat this process to attach all the rows together.
Step 6: Hem the edges with Fusible Net
Once all your denim patchwork rows are attached, flip your patchwork blanket over and use Fusible Net to hem the edges. Measure and cut Fusible Net to the length of your patchwork blanket, then place along the bottom edge. Iron to attach the net to fabric, peel off the backing, then fold the edge over itself and iron to create a hem. Flip and iron on the opposite side to fully bond. Repeat on the remaining three sides of the denim patchwork blanket.
Step 7: Enjoy your denim patchwork blanket!
Once all the edges are hemmed, your denim patchwork blanket is ready to enjoy. There’s no need to wait for glue to dry— this adhesive creates an ultra-strong bond once heat set!
