Upcycled Wooden Wine Box Shelf with Super Glue
If you’re a wine connoisseur, you’ve probably got an empty wooden wine box or two laying around— instead of tossing it, try upcycling it with Aleene’s! This beginner-friendly home décor project uses Aleene’s DIY Craft Super Glue to create a rustic wine box shelf, no nails or screws needed. Whether you’re showcasing plants, trinkets, or a favorite bottle of wine, this simple DIY makes a versatile display!
Supplies Needed:
Aleene’s DIY Craft Super Glue
Wine box
1” x 4” lumber
Fine-grit sandpaper
Ruler
Tape
Pencil
Hand saw
Dry cloth
Shelving hardware (optional)
Step 1: Prepare your wooden wine box
If needed, smooth any rough edges of the wine box with fine-grit sandpaper. Ensure the wooden wine box you’re upcycling is clean and dry. Use a ruler to measure the length and width of your wine box.
Step 2: Cut lumber into shelves
Use a ruler and pencil to measure and mark your 1” x 4” lumber, then carefully cut along the marked line with a hand saw to create shelves for your wooden wine box. For this project, we’re cutting the lumber into one long and one short piece. This will create three sections in your wine box shelf.
Step 3: Smooth shelves with sandpaper
Smooth each side of the shelves with a fine-grit sandpaper. Clean the shelves with a dry cloth to remove any sawdust and debris.
Step 4: Glue and tape the shorter shelf
Apply Aleene’s DIY Craft Super Glue to both short sides and one long side of the shorter piece of lumber. Place the glued wood horizontally in the wooden wine box, then use tape to secure the shelf into place while the glue sets.
Step 5: Glue and tape the longer shelf
Apply Aleene’s DIY Craft Super Glue to both short sides and one long side of the longer piece of lumber. Place the glued wood vertically into the wooden wine box, perpendicular to the short piece of lumber. Use tape to secure the shelf into place while the glue sets.
Step 6: Let dry and display!
Allow the glue to cure completely, approximately 24 hours, for a maximum-strength bond. Once the glue has cured, remove the tape and display your upcycled wooden wine box shelf! Add hardware to hang your wine box shelf, or try making multiple wooden wine box shelves and stack them for a free-standing display!
