How to Preserve Dried Florals with Acrylic Sealer

Pampas grass and other dried florals make for a perfect fall centerpiece, but loose tufts of grass and foliage can drive a person mad! Luckily, there’s a simple solution to the falling foliage— Aleene’s Spray Acrylic Sealer! This terrific tutorial from Oh Yay Studio will show you how to make a stunning fall centerpiece with dried florals that won’t fall apart thanks to Aleene’s Acrylic Spray Sealer.

What you need:
  • Aleene’s Spray Acrylic Sealer, Matte
  • Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue
  • Pampas grass and other dried florals
  • Protective surface cover
  • Wooden round
  • Pencil
  • Hammer and nail OR Drill and small drill bit
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • Fine-grit sand paper (optional)

  • Step 1 Drill holes into wooden round

Start this simple project by marking out the holes that you want on the wooden round. Then use a drill fitted with a small drill bit OR a hammer and nail to make holes for your grasses and dried florals.

Step 2 (optional) Sand and spray paint the wooden round

Smooth out the surface of your wooden round with fine-grit sandpaper if needed. Clean to remove any debris, then spray paint if desired. Oh Yay Studio painted their wooden round a beautiful shade of teal for a striking fall centerpiece!

Step 3 Spray dried florals with sealer

Lay out your pampas grass and other dried florals onto a protected surface in a well-ventilated area. Spray a few light layers of Aleenes Spray Acrylic Sealer evenly across the dried florals and grass, allowing to dry for about 30 minutes between coats. Be sure to flip the foliage over to seal both sides. Allow to dry completely before proceeding.

Step 4 Place dried florals into wooden round and secure with Turbo Tacky

Begin arranging your pampas grass and dried florals into the wooden round. Keep the taller foliage in the center, with shorter pieces closer to the edge. Once everything is where you want it to be, dab a bit of Turbo Tacky Glue to the end of each piece of foliage before placing it back into the wooden round.

Step 5 Dried floral fall centerpiece with Aleenes

Once the glue has dried, your dried floral fall centerpiece is ready to display and it wont make a mess, thanks to Aleenes!
