Aleene's Favorites: Decoupage Paper Tray with Tacky Glue
Decoupage is a timeless craft that involves cutting and pasting paper to create uniquely designed surfaces. This simple craft gained popularity in America in the 1960s and was often used as a creative way to decorate boxes, wastebaskets, screens, trays, and more. Creating your own DIY decoupage décor is easy with Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue— this easy tutorial will show you how to make a decoupage paper tray with a bold retro design!
Supplies needed:

Decoupage paper
Clear glass plate or tray
Paintbrush
Scissors
Shallow bowl
Step 1: Cut decoupage paper to cover the tray

Select the decoupage paper you want to use for to decorate your glass tray— scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, and even paper napkins can be used for this project! Ensure you have enough decoupage paper to cover your glass tray and trim the paper with a bit of extra room on the sides.
Step 2: Spread Tacky Glue across the glass tray
Place your glass tray upside down on a protected work surface and carefully pour Tacky Glue across the back side. Use a paintbrush to spread the glue into an even layer, ensuring the entire surface is coated in glue.
Step 3: Place decoupage paper onto glass tray
Place your decoupage paper, design side down, onto the glued area. Press firmly to adhere the paper to the entire glass tray, pushing down any air bubbles. Try rolling your bottle of Tacky Glue across the paper for flat, even pressure!
Step 4: Trim excess decoupage paper
Flip the glass tray over and use scissors to trim the excess decoupage paper
Step 5: Seal decoupage paper glass tray with Tacky Glue
Place your decoupage paper glass tray upside down on top of a shallow bowl or other small object to prop the tray above your work surface. Pour Tacky Glue onto the back side of the decoupage paper, then use a paintbrush to spread the glue evenly across the paper and seal in your decoupage design. Ensure the edges of the plate are sealed for long-lasting results!
Step 6: Let dry and display!
Once the Tacky Glue has dried completely, your decoupage paper glass tray is ready to display. This DIY decoupage décor serves as a great trinket tray or catchall for accessories, keys, and more!
