No-Sew Rainbow Hoodie for Kids
Somewhere over the rainbow ... is another rainbow on a hoodie that's unbelievably adorable and fun to wear in rain or shine! Made with yarn, pompoms and nontoxic Fabric Fusion, there's no sewing required so it's an easy project for the kiddos to get involved in. Our rainbow is featured on a hoodie but you could easily recreate this technique on a T-shirt, tote bag or canvas to make cute wall art! Follow the rainbow this way to creativity ...
What you need:
- Aleene's Fabric Fusion
- Aleene's Stop Fraying
- Hoodie - color of choice (or T-shirt, tote bag, etc.)
- Thick yarn - rainbow colors
- Pompoms - white and blue for clouds and rain
- Pencil (optional)
- Cardboard or plastic trash bag (for inside of hoodie)
- Scissors
Make sure your hoodie (or fabric item depending on what you are creating) is clean and dry. Insert a piece of cardboard or a plastic trash bag inside of the hoodie to protect the backside in case any glue seeps through the top layer while you are working.
If needed, first use a pencil to lightly draw a rainbow arc on the front of the hoodie. Otherwise, freehand apply a thin line of Fabric Fusion in an arc shape for the top rainbow color.
Tip: Less is more when using Fabric Fusion. Applying too much will oversaturate the fabric and cause it to become difficult to glue your yarn to. So make sure to apply a thin line to your hoodie.
Measure and cut your first color of yarn to fit glue arc. Press into glue and trim any excess.
Continue the process with other yarn colors until your rainbow is complete.
Apply Stop Fraying to the ends of yarn strands to keep the yarn from unraveling. Let dry.
Use Fabric Fusion to glue white pompoms at each end of the rainbow to create clouds. Glue smaller blue pompoms scattered under clouds like falling raindrops. Let dry completely.
